Good things that happened in 2021
As human beings, we tend to focus on the negatives: COVID, unemployment, inflation, whether you are pro-vax or anti-vax, Biden vs Trump. The list goes on. So I decided to close this year on a positive note. As I am writing this blog post, the Omicron cases are rising and my anxiety level is hitting the ceiling, so I need a therapy. Writing is helping me calm down, and if you add the topic of today’s post, I believe I will reach my Zen in a couple of minutes.
EVENT #1: “Mr. Vice President. I’m Speaking” aka women took the charge.

Not only did Kamala Harris become the first female Vice President of the United States, but she also taught us how to step your foot down. One of the best things I heard in 2021 is the famous “Mr. Vice President. I’m Speaking” uttered to Mike Pence who was cutting Mrs. Harris off during the debate. While Kamala Harris was showing the US voters that her opinions matters, women in Poland did something even bigger.

They went out the streets after the Government and the Constitutional Tribunal (the equivalent to the Supreme Court in the US) passed the anti-abortion legislation And when I say they “went out to the streets”…. They actually started the whole movement, which woke millions of women in Poland and made them realize they and their rights matter too.
EVENT #2: FREE BRITNEY

This year we realized that family drama is not only the case of us regular people. Celebrities, such as Britney Spears, have issues with their kins too. In June 2021 Britney Spears informally asked the court to terminate the conservatorship agreement, that lasted for 13 years (!), which made her father the only person allowed to make financial and personal decisions regarding Britney’s life. Crazy, right?
EVENT #3: THE GREAT RESIGNATION
I absolutely loved it. And I am jealous of those who found enough courage to simply quit their corporate jobs and start doing something on their own. The pandemic definitely helped millions of employees reflect on their lack of life-work balance and we ended up with almost 3% of Americans quit their jobs. So long “as per my previous email…”.

EVENT #4: DONALD TRUMP WAS BANNED FROM TWITTER

EVENT #5: SMALL BUSINESS ARE BEING BORN
It’s extremely inspiring to see so many young people starting new businesses working for themselves. This inspiration is so strong that even I opened my own shop J Without a doubt, pandemic gave us all this (un)comfortable feeling that we should live our dreams now. What’s even better is that the customers are more aware of the value small business bring and they tend to shop local more often.

Looking forward to 2022, I hope we can see a bright future ahead of us. And that’s what I wish you all for this upcoming year.
xoxo,
