January 2022 Skincare Holy Grails
I’m not sure if anyone feels the same when visiting my blog, but writing these posts brings me a lot of pleasure and I feel I am becoming more fluent in “blogging”. I’m not sure why I put the word “blogging” in quotation marks, almost as if I didn’t want to admit that amongst all the other 15 roles I have in life, I am a blogger too. But I must admit: after a long day at work, when everyone winds down at home, that moment when I pull up my laptop (or notebook – never underestimate the power of handwritten words!) and start writing is magical. I disappear. I am out of touch and in the zone. Nothing can distract me. To make things even funnier, in college I hated creative writing. Would you believe if I told you that I almost failed a semester because I was so bad/uninspired/didn’t get it?
Talking about inspiration, I had an idea to introduce a new cycle for #RealSkinClub, which is “Months Favorites”. For those, who just woke up, it’s January 2022 and I have some cool products for you to read about. Of course, you will find here a lot of educational content regarding skincare products, but I feel like this kind of post will have a bit of the journaling vibe where I can simply share what’s has been happening in my life recently.
Ready? Let’s get started.
We are toilet training. Wait, what? What kind of introduction to skincare HG is it? This has nothing to do with Skincare Holy Grails….To be honest, it does. For those who are parents: it’s a shit show. For those who are child-free: you barely have time for anything because you are either chasing your toddler or cleaning the floor. Luckily, my daughter got the hang of toilet training pretty quickly, but during those few weeks, trying to stick to my skin goals for 2022 was quite a challenge. How did I do it?
With this cutie pie:
I have never used anything like this before. It’s a serum with gel consistency (my skin loves that!) but it’s also kind of watery. This makes the product super duper light and you don’t feel as if you had 12 layers of products on your skin. Yet, you definitely feel that the skin is moisturized. How? The smarties at SKIN1004 made sure the serum is packed with 5 kinds of Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramide that help boost skin's moisture level.
I tried this serum before bed and works beautifully – I wake up with soft and even skin. I decided to give it a try on the outside while wearing a mask. To make sure everyone is on the same page: I DID PUT SUNSCREEN ON TOO. I spent about an hour outside in 21 degrees F weather (approx.. -5 Celsius) wearing a mask and besides the redness from the cold weather, my skin remained amazingly moisturized and calm. This is thanks to Centella Asiatica Extract that relieves skin discomfort and leaves it calm. I absolutely loved the feeling and I will stick to using this serum all winter long. And you know what else is cool? Its light consistency will allow me to use it in warmer weather. Yay!
What else is worth trying?
You may think that recommending a lip balm in the wintertime is nothing new, but this one really stands out from the crowd: after all, you don’t find lip balms made with kombucha tea extract on regular basis.
Here is how it works: you go outside and it’s cold -> Your lips get dry and flaky -> You need something that will help you soften and moisturize your lips -> Dr. Ceuracle packs kombucha tea extract, shea butter, and squalene together to help you beat the winter cold and dry lips.
How? What’s the hype with fermented skincare? To put it layman’s language, fermentation of the ingredients in skincare products makes them more concentrated. The more concentrated they are, the better they absorb into your skin. And this is how you found your lip balm Holy Grail. You’ll thank me later.
I hope everyone got cozy already because I am about to introduce my third finding of the month, which is….drumroll please….
For the last 2 weeks of December, I worked from home. The daycare was closed. I repeat: the daycare was closed. For 2 weeks. My days looked more or less like this: I am trying to have a normal phone conversation with my Boss, while watching my daughter, and telling her not to climb the kitchen island. After 4 pm, when my office was closed, I had to fix the dinner, work on Clean Beauty Spot, pack gifts, clean the house. No fun at all. I can’t really explain it - probably because of exhaustion - my face by the end of the day looked dull and swollen. And this was when Missha Rice Sheet Mask came to the rescue! This little packet of miracle, as I like to call it, made my face look fresh and supple! The mask itself is not harsh on your skin, so it’s perfect for those with sensitive or dry skin. After a few uses, my pores looked smaller, and finally, there was no shine in the T zone. I even gave the mask to my Mom to try and she fell for its charm right away: she loved the fact that it adheres to practically every part and angle of your face so you really feel like all the ingredients are absorbed fully.
And this is where I should say: it’s a wrap. It is a wrap of this post, but also a beginning of a very cool series of monthly skincare Holy Grails. I hope you were not bored with my personal stories and that maybe I got a tiny smile in the toilet training part :)
Till next time!
